I arrived at gate C4 and wandered over to my next departing gate C17 in search of something healthy for lunch to bring on the plane. To my dismay all I found was Burger King, Pizza Hut, and a Starbucks that only had their higher calories items (sandwiches, muffins, etc.). Since I had time to kill I wandered over to gates B, and found the same disappointing options but had some hope in the deli I spotted. I expected the deli to serve some healthy options and the only thing remotely close were two prepackaged Wolfgang Puck salads, an Asian salad and Caesar salad. Knowing that Asian salads have hidden calories (in the noodles/wontons, and sugary dressings) I reached for the Caesar thinking I could just minimize the dressing to reduce my calorie consumptions. As I flipped it over to the nutrition label I found, 770 CALORIES! At best I might have subtracted 250 calories with the dressing. I left the salad and went on searching. I found myself back at gate C17 and spotted some prepackaged salads at Pizza Hut of all places. I even more surprised with the reasonable options; a Southwest Chicken salad for only 330 calories, 11g of fat (from chicken & cheese), 28g of carbs, 4g of fiber, and 31g of protein! Granted the only downside to this salad is the 1200mg of sodium, but only those who need to watch their sodium intake would need to worry about this. To top it off, the salad was very flavorful and satisfying.
